SUNDAY DINNER FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY- When I was a boy Sunday dinner was the meal eaten at about 2 o clock on Sunday after church. All family members still in their church clothes, sat down for fried chicken from the hen house and tomatoes, corn and Lima beans or field peas from the garden or, in the winter, vegetables that mom had canned the previous summer. Boy was that meal delicious! Alice Moseley was a person who ate more out of necessity rather than enjoyment, but boy did she love to cook. My dad W.J. could not cook a lick. One of my earliest auditory memories is hearing the sound of my dad scraping the toast he had burned while fixing his breakfast in the morning. W.J Moseley was, however, a championship eater. He worked hard and he ate a lot and enjoyed every bite of mom's cooking that he ever consumed. Mom cooked whatever she felt like cooking and my dad downed it with glee. When I moved to the coast, I was trying to lose a few pounds and mom would get a little peeved when I just nibbled at the cake she had baked. Mixed in with her Crisco high calorie offerings, she would proudly announce,"I know you are on a diet so I just fixed you some fresh green beans." I would dive into these heart friendly offerings and would eat a big bowl full of beans and take the remainder home for later. The next day when I went to the fridge for my heart healthy fare, I would find my beans hiding beneath a half inch of congealed fat. Upon further investigations I would locate 5 strips of bacon under the beans or as mom described it "JUST A LITTLE SEASONING." Alice Moseley was not a person who would fix beans that did not have a little seasoning.
