SMALL TOWN DOWNTOWN FEELING BLUE- The stores in this print were in Grenada Mississippi in days gone by. The painting is unusual for Alice Moseley because it has an almost impressionistic look in hues of blue. The use of blue conveying both a color and a mood is one used by Miss Alice in The house is Blue,But the Old Lady Ain't. In this print the blue refers to the sadness felt by downtowns as Wal-mart replaces the jeweler, the clothier, the sporting goods store, the grocer. They are all gone. Iris Dement said in her wonderful song, My Town----'Go on now and say goodbye to our town, to our town.  Can't you see the sun's going down on our town, Goodnight.   I buried my mama and I buried my Pa. They sleep up the street by that pretty brick wall. I bring them flowers about every day but I just got to cry when I think what they'd say if they could see how the sun's settin fast and just like they say nothing good ever lasts. Can't you see the sun's settin fast on our town,on our town, Goodnight.
