BRINGING HOME THE BACON- I talked about some of my memories from childhood involving hog killings in discussing the print"HIGH LOW AND MIDDLE ON THE HOG." Bringing home the bacon can mean many things to many people, but to me it means getting the job done. The commentary on this print is going to thank the four key people in Bay St. Louis who enabled Alice Moseley to be the success that she became. Jerry Dixon made my mom feel at home in the Bay even before Bay St. Louis was her home. Over the years,Jerry continued to look out for my mom and would make introductions to her whenever Jerry met someone that he thought Alice Moseley could benefit from knowing. The late Barry Pincus helped my mom achieve acceptance from art collectors who would not have known about Alice Moseley folk art without Barry's introduction and recommendation. Barry helped my mom achieve an elevated popularity and acceptance at the collector level. Not enough can possibly be said about Beth Carriere and the wonderful Hancock County Tourism Department. Alice Moseley not only gave credit to Beth for bringing Alice Moseley to the forefront and to the notice of many new collectors, but Miss Alice believed that Beth Carriere and the Hancock County Tourism Department were responsible for the truly amazing amount of publicity that has been obtained for Hancock County and Bay St. Louis. Southern Living Magazine, Mississippi Roads TV program, Southwest Airlines Magazine, Travel and Leisure Magazine etc. Thanks to the efforts of Beth and her department, Bay Saint Louis is now ahead of, or at least the equal of, Ocean Springs as a tourism destination. Included among the many wonderful things done by Beth Carriere was an introduction of my mom to Janie O'Keefe and Chris Snyder. Janie and Chris have, with their video," Hello I'm Alice Moseley" made it possible for collectors, far into the future, to get a glimpse into the personality and the humor of Miss Alice. I can't tell both of them how much The Alice Moseley Folk Art and Antique Museum benefits and will benefit for years to come by having the video footage they so lovingly compiled. All of the above mentioned people were very, very instrumental in making it possible for Miss Alice to; "BRING HOME THE BACON"
