BRINGING FLOWERS FOR MISS ALICE TO TAKE ON HER JOURNEY-My mom Alice Moseley died on July 9, 2004 and her memorial service was held under the live oak trees in the front of our restored depot across the street from her blue shotgun house. There was,of course,a lot of sadness, but also a lot of laughter at the service. I talked about my mom's courage and tenacity. Alice Moseley was  a very talented  teacher and artist. She was a very bright lady who was very funny and effective as  a communicator. Failure or not succeeding, at whatever she tried, was not an acceptable outcome for    Miss Alice.  At the memorial, I talked about a time when we were at our poorest. Mom went out in the yard and found  her  only rooster, in a yard full of hens, choking on something stuck in his craw. Mom had my dad hold the rooster while she cut open his craw with a razor blade, removed the blockage and then sewed him up with a needle and thread. As she said later, the worst that could have happened was a chicken dinner. The rooster recovered, however. This print was made for the memorial service and given to the first hundred families attending the service. My mom and I had pre-planned the memorial and I think she would have been proud of what took place. It  was a happy day for me, as many of mom's friends were there ,and her last month had been very painful to watch.  Like it or not, her time had come. All the speakers would have made mom proud. Mike Cuevas and the city of Bay St. Louis arranged the depot which featured a display of Moseley originals, a power point photographic display done by Dale St. Amant, and a viewing of the video,"Hello,I'm Alice Moseley." Also, featured was an after ceremony delicious dinner on the grounds provided by mom's friends. Included in the food was two of mom's favorites; Texas Orange cakes and homemade pimiento cheese sandwiches .We also thank  the weather for giving us not a drop of rain on what, until an hour before the ceremony, was a very rainy day.
